Cumming Election 2019

Election Day Turnout of 15% of the 3,179 registered voted turned out in Cumming

Joey Cochran is the newest member of the Cumming City Council on Post 3. He joins incumbents Post 4 Councilman Christopher Light and Post 5 Councilwoman Linda Ledbetter who both ran unopposed and were reelected to their positions.

In a 3 way race for Post 3 Cochran received 270 of the votes cast for Post 3, beating opponents Jason May with 185 and Brent Patrick with 18 votes.

Voters passed a special election question which asked if the City of Cumming should be authorized to permit and regulate Sunday sales of distilled spirits or alcoholic beverages by the drink from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There were 277 votes in favor and 198 opposed to the question.

Senate Bill 17, known as the Brunch Bill or Mimosa Mandate, was passed by the Georgia General Assembly last year, clearing the way for local referendums to determine whether restaurants and wineries could begin selling alcohol at 11 a.m. on Sunday. This does not apply to alcohol sales for retailers — only establishments that make at least 50 percent of their revenue from food sales.
