More than 88,000 additional people have developed anxiety or depression as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to new data released today by Mental Health America (MHA) from its online screening program.

In addition, more than 21,000 depression screeners reported thinking of suicide or self-harm on more than half the days – a number that suggests a coming wave of mental impacts that could be of epidemic proportions.

NASA said, although uncertainty remained over weather conditions at the Florida launch site the SpaceX’s historic first crewed mission wa set to blast off for the International Space Station as scheduled today.  Weather challenges remain with a 50 percent chance of cancellation.

Student Art Wall Challenge

One young, local artist will soon have their work on display at Halcyon according to a press release.

Halcyon, a mixed-use facility in south Forsyth, is hosting the Student Art Wall Challenge. Students are invited to submit an original design for an outdoor mural with the theme “What does Halcyon mean to you?”

Issuing of Absentee Ballots Begins

Absentee ballots available for the March 24 Presidential Preference Primary

On Feb. 4, the Forsyth County Voter Registrations and Elections office began issuing absentee ballots for the March 24 Presidential Preference Primary. Applications for absentee ballots for this primary can be requested through March 20.

As the Water Rises

Lake Lanier encompasses 38,000 acres of water, and 692 miles of shoreline at normal level. a “full summer pool” of 1,071 feet above mean sea level.  At Buford Dam, which is the deepest part of Lake Lanier, the lake is more than 160 feet deep.
