The election is between candidates Jason May, Brent Patrick and Joey Cochran. The council seat is for that of Councilman Lewis Ledbetter who has held the seat since 1971.All voting will take place at Cumming City Hall, 110 E. Main Street, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voting will be on election day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at city hall.
Councilmembers Linda Ledbetter, Posts 4 and Christopher Light Post 5 are also up for election this year, though no candidates qualified to run against them. Both were elected in 2015.
The only other issue on the ballot is a special election to move the time restaurants can serve alcohol on Sundays from 12:30 p.m. to 11 a.m.
“Brunch bills” were on local ballots across the state last year after a bill allowing the time change was approved by the Georgia General Assembly and signed into law by then-Gov. Nathan Deal in 2018.
Last November, Forsyth County voters approved the change for unincorporated parts of the county with 64.22 percent of the vote.
