In 2005, the Sawnee Arts Center was sold. The Forsyth County Arts Alliance (FCAA) was created with the proceeds. The funds were placed in management and investment services provided through the North Georgia Community Foundation. A local Board of Directors, representing business and community leaders, is responsible for making recommendations for the distribution of funds. Their mission statement is Believing that a vibrant arts culture is vital to a thriving community, FCAA enriches the arts through strategic support and financial stewardship. This and more is accomplished each year by the distribution of grants and has established the FCAA as a major contributor to the arts in Forsyth County.
In 2017, seven grants totaling $33,000 were given out. An additional $10,000 is given each year for Festival of the Arts. To be eligible to apply for and receive a grant, the arts programming, event or project has to benefit those in Forsyth County. Only 501(c)(3) non profit organizations and government entities can be the direct recipient. The process begins with a Letter of Intent due in early April. FCAA does not award more than 50% of the budget for any arts event program or project.
The Board currently has 13 members that each volunteer to promote the arts in Forsyth County. The current President Ann-Margaret Johnston has bee on the Board for three years. Anna Lyle, who is currently serving as Vice President, is also President-elect. Cumming-Forsyth Chamber of Commerce President (CEO) James McCoy is serving as treasurer.
