Sawnee Mountain Preserve Offers Abundance of Spring and Summertime Programs |
The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department will host a number of exciting, upcoming events at the Sawnee Mountain Preserve. The Preserve is located at 2500 Bettis-Tribble Gap Road in Cumming. The Sawnee Mountain Preserve has been awarded "Most Outstanding GreenSpace Plan" for 2005 by the Georgia Urban Forestry Council. Eco-Explorers: Mommy and me nature classes for preschoolers ages 3-5. Activities include exploring, stories, games and crafts. Topics include Animal Evidence (May 11), Tremendous Trees (May 18), and Insect Investigations (May 25). Fee: $7.00 per class (adults accompanying children are free) Explorer Camp: Environmental Education Camp at Sawnee Mountain Preserve. Campers ages 8-11 will participate in hands-on activities to explore different aspects of the natural world. Summer camp activities will include hiking, tracking, stream studies, insect investigations, geology, crafts and more! There are 4 sessions to choose from: June 19-23; July 10-14; July 17-21; and July 24-28. Fee: $100.00 After-School Hikes: For students in third through sixth grade. Activities include games, hiking and exploring at Sawnee Mountain Preserve.
