Two Forsyth County schools have been named Georgia Schools Excellence in Student Achievement for 2007. Speaking of the 23 Georgia schools named as Schools of Excellence, State Superintendent Kathy Cox said, "These schools are the best of the best. The teachers, students, parents and staff at these 23 schools are focused and determined, and they are getting the job done."
North Forsyth Middle School, which was a Georgia School of Excellence in 2000, received the honor in the area of "greatest gains." The "greatest gains" category is defined as schools that have demonstrated the greatest continuous gains in student achievement for the past three years as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics.
Matt Elementary, which opened in 2000, recieved honor in the area of "top 10 percent." This category includes schools that are in the top 10 percent of schools in Georgia as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics.
A banquet honoring all the Georgia Schools of Excellence will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center in February.
