Free mulch is now available to Forsyth County residents while supplies last at Forsyth County’s Coal Mountain Park. The mulch consists mostly of Christmas trees that were recycled and processed through a wood chipper.
Although it is not double processed like grade "A" shredded mulch which can be purchased at nurseries and garden centers, Keep Forsyth County Beautiful recommends using this recycled Christmas tree mulch for projects such as nature trails, landscape beds and large, soil exposed areas.
The mulch is available on a first-come, first-serve basis between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Coal Mountain Park is located at 3560 Settingdown Road. The mulch is piled on the left side of the driveway inside the main entrance of the park. Residents are responsible for loading and hauling their own mulch. Please try to keep the area as clean as possible and avoid driving on the dirt during rain. Parks and Recreation will be conducting sports sign-up at the park on January 21 and 22, making it very busy; therefore these days are not recommended for picking up the mulch.
