A recent study based on 2006 census information has placed Forsyth County at number 13 in the nation in median annual income. The Forbes list shows Forsyth County having a median income of $83, 682. No other Georgia county made the list. Forsyth County Commission chairman Charles Laughinghouse was surprised by the notariety. "I know we are considered the most affluent in Georgia, but I would not have put us 13th in the nation."
Chairman Laughinghouse sees both sides of the distinction. On one hand, the media exposure puts Forsyth County on the map for people looking to locate industries. On the other, the higher priced housing has caused some to move out of the county and local businesses to find workers from other areas.
According to the Forbes.com list, the Washington D.C. suburbs top the list of the nations wealthiest residents. Fairfax County, home to many high-ranking government officials and businesspeople tied to Capitol Hill, ranked No. 1 with a median annual income of $100,318. |
