Forsyth County Georgia has once again made the top 10 fastest growing counties in the United States at number 8. It also made number 1 in the state of Georgia. Forsyth county remains a very desirable place to live with a high quality of life and median income of $83,000. Lake Lainer, a 35,000 acre lake extends along the county's eastern border, golf courses of world class quality, local activities, great public schools, Atlanta 30 minutes away are all a part of the attraction.
The metro Atlanta area continues to grow despite the water shortage. Lake Lanier, Atlanta and northern area's water supply, is 20 feet low and would take almost a year of rainfall to fill. The main river, the Chattahoochee, is in a water dispute with Alabama and Florida who also need it's flow to survive. This water "war" has gone on for about 18 years and the federal government is getting close to stepping in. The state has taken some measures to plan for water needs but the are a day late and a dollar short as far as the citizens are concerned. On the positive side they have allocated millionbs to build new resivors but it is unclear where they will be located. And in the spirit of gerrymandering they have drawn water distrists across watersheds to plan for the future. Most states draw them relative to water basins since the water has to stay in the basin. |
