County Awarded Multiple Public Safety Grants |
Funding will help support a variety of programs
Forsyth County has recently been awarded multiple grants related to public
safety. This funding will help support and enhance a variety of county
programs and departments and provide for improved community services
for citizens.
The Forsyth County Fire Department was recently
awarded a thermal imaging grant from Fireman’s Fund Insurance. The
grant, part of the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Heritage program, provided
$9,700 for the purchase of a new Bullard Fire Service thermal imaging
camera with software. Such cameras allow fire personnel to see beyond
smoke-filled conditions and locate victims and trapped firefighters.
The acquisition of this camera will be an asset to the department’s
current cache of tools and apparatus in the suppression division.
Several
Forsyth County departments and their affiliates recently received
Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grants from the Criminal Justice
Coordinating Council. The county’s Victim Witness Assistance Program
(VWAP) received the grant for a seventh year, receiving this year over
$80,000 to fund employees. The Sheriff’s Office received the grant for
the fifth year, with nearly $40,000 being provided for the funding of
employees.
The Children’s Advocacy Center, which works closely
together with both of these departments, also received funding from the
Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.
The Governor’s Office
of Highway Safety (GOHS) recently awarded the Highway Enforcement of
Aggressive Traffic (HEAT) grant to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
The $124,000 grant provides for the continuation of the existing
program, which has led to a massive reduction in traffic fatalities.
This funding supports salaries for project employees and operations.
The Forsyth County HEAT team is comprised of three members who
concentrate on keeping the county’s roadways safe.
The county
is responsible for funds matching with some grants, resulting in even
greater funding going to these important programs. |
